SHOOTING THE BREEZE

The phone rang and it was Peggy, one of my favorite client/decorators on the line.  I have put wood and carpet in several large homes for her on the Balboa Peninsula.
One of these clients had contacted my carpet cleaner who pointed out to Peggy’s client that she needed an area rug by the front door to protect the white carpet on the nearby stairs.  I called Peggy to see what she wanted to do.
I got the nicest compliment when she called me back.  Peggy said I could handle the problem on my own, but what ‘she really appreciated was the fact that I didn’t try to do it on my own without asking.’ She shared that over the years many trades people had done jobs for her clients without mentioning it and basically stolen her clients.
It saddens me to think that people do this.  We all work very hard—advertising, networking, word of mouth, etc.—to find our clients and to do the best job possible.  And we like to be able to refer to trades people we have used that are good in their area of expertise.  And that respect the fact that the referrals are still our clients.  Most do.  And we do the same.
I know I am not perfect—but it is nice to know that I do something right once in a while.

CLEAN, SPARKLING WINDOWS

Spring is here and there is nothing that makes your house sparkle more than cleaning the windows—what I call ‘the eyes of the house’.  As a one time professional house cleaner, I know your home looks cleaner and brighter when the windows let the sunshine in!
Thomas Suri, has cleaned my home and business windows for many years.  Besides doing a fabulous job, he has a great sense of humor (I hope) - I could not resist this picture he sent me with his new ‘Christmas Jammies’.
Thanks Tom for many years of sparkling windows.  And lots of laughs!

PET CORNER . . . ..  PET OF THE MONTH

As a young child thought I would become a veterinarian.  Instead I had two wonderful boys and put my husband through dental school.
Life has a way of making your wishes come true—in its time—not yours.  Now I have fun pet sitting and enjoying it immensely!
Magic is the most loving cat I have ever met.  He sleeps on the bed with his head on the pillow next to me on the nights I am lucky enough to spend with him.  Just like the person he is!  (949.422.8570)

What kind of personal grown could you have if you took things back to the core!
The answer to so many things can be found in Mother Nature. If there is a bit of nourishment, personal growth will happen. We can’t see that growth on a daily basis. We have to give it time to do its thing. If we are aware of our goals and take small actions every day our lives will begin to take shape. We need to develop good habits and begin to cultivate an environment that is ripe for personal growth. Then one day we step back and wow, look at how much we have changed. We are starting to thrive!
But Mother Nature is not always a friend to personal growth. Thriving is a great thing, but the problem is change and personal growth don’t just stop. Like Mother Nature our lives silently and slowly continue to evolve. Our personal growth begins to get bigger and bigger. Eventually we start carrying a lot of dead weight. Life gets all tangled up and there is way too much energy spent in all the wrong places.
But no worries. That is totally natural. It’s the cycle of life. As humans all we need to do is have the courage to pick up the clippers and start chopping away. Yes that first cut may be difficult, but it really is for the best. We need to be careful and prune back what is not working so we can open up our lives for another round of personal growth.
The good news is, the next time our life becomes overgrown, it becomes easier to weed out the bad stuff. We now know where we want to allow growth and where we don’t. We can pull the bad habits up from the roots before they get out of hand. We have hopefully learned to say to “no” to the new sprouts that take our personal growth in the wrong direction. Making cuts to things that no longer serve us becomes easier and easier. Soon we are thriving again and all those prickly thorns are now producing beautiful buds just waiting to blossom in the sun.
