“Giant Blue Whale Watching Winter 2015. Enjoy $16 Whale Watching Special”
Giant blue whales were once considered quite rare off Newport Beach, but over the last five years this has changed dramatically with hundreds-thousands of giant blue whales spotted each year.  Over 1100 giant blue whales were viewed from May-October with multiple blue whales sighted during one whale watching cruise, a regular occurrence.  Along with viewing blue whales, finback whales (second largest whale) are also frequently viewed as well as the smaller minke whales.  Humpback whales and even killer whales are also possible during the summer and fall months. Giant pods of common and bottlenose dolphin are also very common with mega pods numbering a thousand or more dolphins quite frequent as well and amazing to witness.
Join Newport Landing’s whale watching cruises offered multiple times daily from Balboa Penisula in Newport Beach and view the largest creatures on earth.

Celebrate Balboa Island Day
“Anchors Aweigh”
Sunday June 7, 2015
11 am - 2:00 pm

It’s that time of year again on Balboa Island, and on behalf of the Balboa Island Improvement Association we would be honored to have you participate in the twenty-second annual “Celebrate Balboa Island Day”.
This year’s theme is “Anchors Aweigh” and the parade will be on Sunday, June 7, at 11:00 AM (you will need to be at the staging area, next to Union Bank on Bayside Drive, by 9:30 AM).  The parade organizes on Bayside Drive, crosses over the Balboa Island Bridge, travels down Marine Avenue and ends at the fire station - approximately two and one-half blocks.
We’re following the same procedures as last year.  The deadline for entries is Saturday, May 9.  There will be a Selection Committee to review all entries and respond to you by Saturday, May 16, regarding the acceptance of your entry.  Please provide a brief description of the entry.  This is the information the Emcees announce as the parade passes them.  Any unique information about the entry or its’ participants is appreciated.  Additional comments can always be added later if necessary.  Included with this invitation to participate is an entry form and guidelines for judging entries.  To maintain the community fun and spirit of the parade, political activity or commercial advertising of any kind is prohibited.
Since the ‘After Parade Event’ was such a huge success last year, we’re continuing it, so plan on staying around after the parade.  There will be music and activities in the 100 block of Marine Avenue following the Parade.  More details to come.
Awards will be presented at the All Island Pancake Breakfast at the Beek Center, Saturday, June 20, 2015.
Check your schedule for availability and let us know at your earliest convenience if you will be available to participate this year, and we hope you will.  If you have any questions, call 949 673-2281 or e-mail:  .
Look forward to seeing you and having you participate in this year’s fun!
